National Honor Society
Being inducted into the Desert Heights Preparatory Academy Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) or Desert Heights Preparatory Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) is a honor and earned by students who represent the five pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship. Additionally, Honor Society candidates exhibit leadership characteristics and have a heart for serving the community. These student-led organizations participate in chapter and individual service projects throughout the school year. Annual nominations occur during the spring and candidates must complete the application process to be considered for membership. Students who accept membership should be aware of the time and commitment involved in this honor. Review Chapter information as well as the process for selection.
The Spanish National Honor Society/La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH), Chapter Jorge Ibargüengoitia, is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). The ideal candidate for this high school society are students who want to continue their Spanish studies after completing Spanish 2. Bilingual and Dual Enrollment Spanish students with high academic performance are the primary inductees, but Spanish 2 students may also be considered. SHH members are responsible for hosting community events to foster and enjoy some of the most relevant aspects of the Hispanic culture and the Spanish language.
The German National Honor Society (GHH), Delta Phi Alpha, seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to humanity's eternal search for peace and truth. The ideal candidate for this high school society are students who want to continue their German studies after completing German 1. Students with high academic performance are the primary inductees, but German 2 students may also be considered. GHH members are responsible for hosting community events to foster and enjoy some of the most relevant aspects of the German culture and the German language.
The International Thespian Society (ITS) is an honor society for high school theatre students. It is a division of the Educational Theatre Association. Thespian troupes serve students in grades 9-12. Students must complete a sufficient quantity and quality of work in theatre arts and particpate in schoolwide events.
Student Council
Student Council/Government is organized through the High School program and the students scaffold down to run all events for other grades. The program allows students to have a say in the activities that occur on campus, but also provides leadership opportunities to hold a position on the board. This student-led organization is responsible for the organization of pep assemblies, weekly themed dress downs, school dances, annual activities like Mr. DHPA and much more!
The beginning of each year students host elections and the student body as a whole votes on the best candidates for the school year. The members meet once a week to plan school wide events to support all grades and to celebrate clubs and sports on campus. This club supports school morale and continues to build traditions at DHPA.
Competitive Dance Team
Throughout the school year Dance Team attends and competes at dance conventions. They learn a variety of dance styles while also developing the skills to work as a team. Dance team also performs at many school functions including pep assemblies and dance shows. If you love to dance, this team’s for you!
Drama/Musical Performances
Those interested in the performing arts are encouraged to tryout for our annual drama/musical performance. Learn acting skills while increasing your dance and singing abilities in performances like Hairspray Jr., Alice in Wonderland and Annie Jr.
Desert Heights Preparatory Academy welcomes more clubs to be added, and encourages students to initate clubs within their peers with teacher support!
